First town of the Highlands, and a proper bush setting
Yerrinbool is the first Southern Highlands town you reach coming south from Sydney on the Hume Highway, sitting around 470–490 metres above sea level on the western edge of the Upper Nepean Nature Reserve. That bush edge is why people move here, and why pools here stay busy: eucalyptus leaves, bark and seed pods fill skimmers, and tannins from gum leaves can stain light pool surfaces if they sit on the floor.
Winters are properly cold for the elevation. Local climate averages show around twenty frost days a year and cool maxima, so salt chlorinators slow down and pools that are switched off through winter are the ones most likely to turn green in spring. We keep sanitiser up, run times sensible and baskets clear through the cooler months, then bring the pool back for summer with a proper start-up.

Why does my Yerrinbool pool stain brown?
Usually eucalypt leaves sitting on the floor and releasing tannins. Regular vacuuming and balanced water stop most staining.
Should I turn the pool off over winter?
We don’t recommend switching it off completely. A lighter winter service is almost always cheaper than a green pool clean-up in spring.
