Salt and mineral pools are our everyday work

Salt and mineral pools are popular across the Southern Highlands, and they need a slightly different kind of care from a traditional chlorine pool. The chlorinator cell does the sanitising, so the cell, the salt or mineral level and the water balance all have to be right for it to work. We look after all three on every visit.

What we do for salt and mineral pools

  • Salt chlorinator cell cleaning and inspection: we check the cell plates for scale and wear, clean them when needed and check the control box for warnings and flow problems.
  • Salt and mineral level balancing: we test salt or mineral levels and tell you (or add) exactly what’s needed, along with pH, alkalinity and chlorine.
  • MagnaPool and magnesium mineral systems: we service magnesium mineral pools, including MagnaPool systems, keeping mineral levels in the range the system is designed for.
  • Low-chemical water: a well-run salt or mineral pool needs less hand-dosing day to day. We set chlorinator output and pump run times to suit your pool so you add as little as possible.
  • Chlorinator installs and replacements: replacement cells and new chlorinators supplied and installed. See salt chlorinators and repairs & equipment.

Why cell and mineral levels matter

If the salt or mineral level drops too low, the cell can’t make enough chlorine and the pool can turn cloudy or green. Too high, and you’re wasting product. Scale on the cell plates cuts output too. Regular testing and a cell check catch these problems before they show up in the water.

Highlands winters and your chlorinator

Many salt and mineral cells make less chlorine in cold water, and some reduce output automatically. Through a Highlands winter that can leave a pool under-sanitised without anyone noticing. We adjust settings through the year and, where needed, top up with other sanitiser in the coldest months. More tips in our winter pool care guide.

Pumps and filters matter too

A chlorinator only works when water is flowing through it. We check your pump and filter on every regular service, and if the pool has already turned, our green pool clean-up gets it back.

We service salt, mineral and MagnaPool pools across the Southern Highlands, including Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Berrima, Bundanoon, Robertson, Exeter, Burradoo, Sutton Forest, Hill Top, Colo Vale and Welby.

Frequently asked questions

Do you service mineral and MagnaPool pools?

Yes. We service magnesium mineral pools, including MagnaPool systems, as well as standard salt pools across the Southern Highlands. Each visit includes a clean, a water test and balancing, and a check of the chlorinator or mineral system.

What’s the difference between a salt pool and a mineral pool?

Both use a chlorinator cell to make chlorine from dissolved minerals in the water. A standard salt pool uses sodium chloride (salt). A mineral pool uses a blend that includes magnesium and other minerals instead of, or as well as, salt. The equipment works on the same principle, but the mineral levels and top-ups are different.

Can I add normal pool salt to my mineral pool?

Check with us or your system’s instructions first. Mineral systems are designed around specific mineral levels, so topping up with plain salt can change the mix. We test the levels and tell you exactly what to add and how much.

Do mineral and salt pools still need chemicals?

Yes, though usually less hand-dosing day to day because the chlorinator makes the chlorine. pH, alkalinity and other levels still need regular testing and adjusting to keep the water clear and protect the cell and equipment.

How often should a salt or mineral chlorinator cell be cleaned?

It depends on your water and how hard the cell is working. Scale builds up on the plates over time and reduces output, so we inspect the cell at service visits and clean it when it needs it rather than on a fixed schedule.

Can you convert my pool to salt or mineral, or replace my chlorinator?

We supply and install salt chlorinators and replacement cells. Tell us what you have now and what you’d like, and we’ll come back with options and a quote.

Which areas do you cover for mineral and salt pools?

The whole Southern Highlands, including Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Berrima, Bundanoon, Robertson, Exeter, Burradoo, Sutton Forest, Hill Top, Colo Vale and Welby.
